Meet Our Starter Homeowners
Tucker, Habitat’s 1st Stater Homeowner.
Meet Tucker!
Three and a half years ago, Tucker was at a crossroads. With housing costs rising in Flagstaff, he was facing the possibility of leaving the community he loved—and the job he loved—to find an affordable place to live. Out of hundreds of applicants, Tucker was selected as Habitat’s very first Starter Home homeowner.
“Being chosen was a miracle in itself. By the grace of God. I am thankful every day. Words cannot describe how amazing it feels to have a place I can truly call home”
Today, Tucker has been happily living in his Starter Home for more than three and a half years. His Starter Home has allowed Tucker to stay in Flagstaff, keep the job he loves, build financial stability, and create a place he can truly call his own.
Meet Sarah!
When Sarah became the second homeowner in our Starter Home Program at the end of 2023, she gained more than a place to live—she gained a pathway to financial stability.
As Sarah approaches her third year of homeownership, she is on track to have accumulated $30,000 in equity savings through the Starter Home Program. This equity represents an incredible opportunity to build long-term financial security and move one step closer to achieving her future homeownership goals.
Sarah, Habitat’s 2nd Starter Homeowner.
The Starter Home Program was designed to do exactly this: provide hardworking families with an affordable place to call home while creating a foundation for lasting financial success. By keeping housing costs affordable and allowing homeowners to build equity over time, the program helps families save for their next chapter instead of being trapped by rising rents.
Sarah's journey is a powerful reminder that homeownership isn't just about owning a home—it's about creating opportunities, building wealth, and investing in a brighter future. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, more families like Sarah's are turning the dream of homeownership into reality.
Monica and her partner in front of their 1st home.
Meet MOnica!
When Monica learned about Habitat’s Starter Home Program, she wasn’t sure she deserved the opportunity. She knew there were other people who needed help, and she wondered if someone else might need it more.
But Monica took a chance—and today, she has a place to call her own.
Becoming a first-time homeowner has given Monica more than four walls and a roof. It has given her stability, confidence, and the freedom to imagine a future in the community she loves. Since moving into her Starter Home, Monica has found a better job, and her partner has joined her in the home.
What once felt like an uncertain future now feels full of possibility. Monica’s story is a reminder that affordable homeownership isn’t just about a house. It’s about creating a foundation where people can build a life, put down roots, and stay connected to the communities they call home.
